PHOTO ALBUM is a short film created for a montage aesthetics class using found photographs from my family archive. My mother brought the images back from Moldova, where they had been kept for decades. The film explores genealogy and memory through visual parallels between my parents’ lives and my own. It begins with my mother’s photos on the right and my father’s on the left, converging as their paths meet.

The work reflects on the universal practice of documenting life events such as birthdays, graduations, and vacations. These shared gestures reveal a collective human desire to be remembered. We photograph ourselves to preserve fleeting moments and to witness our transformations. Through repetition and familiarity, PHOTO ALBUM reveals how memory and image intertwine, creating a living record of continuity and change.

Created for the Concordia University Montage Aesthetics course (2024).
