BIRD GIRL is a collaborative performance and animation created with choreographer Sophia Greco for the Etobicoke School of the Arts showcase, Because I Am a Girl: Girlhood. Set to “Bird Gerhl” by Antony and the Johnsons, the animation was created within a week and designed to move in rhythm with the live dancer’s performance.

Each drawn element, from hearts and hands to waves and birds, responds directly to her choreography. Some images act as extensions of gesture while others translate emotion into visual form. The piece reflects on transformation, freedom, and the relationship between body and movement. By merging animation with dance, BIRD GIRL becomes a dialogue between mediums, exploring how image and motion can expand each other’s meaning in performance.

Presented at the “Defining Our Past and Future” edition of ESA’s Because I Am a Girl show (October 2022).
